From DACA to DNP —
The Story Behind the Expertise
Carlos Sandoval, DNP, FNP, CANS, is a family nurse practitioner, Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist, clinical educator, and Director of Provider Training at SkinSpirit with 20 years of experience in dermatology and aesthetic medicine. His work spans patient care, provider development, curriculum design, injectable and energy-based device education, clinical research, and patient-safety initiatives.
Carlos earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice from San José State University in May 2026. His doctoral work focused on improving hyaluronic acid filler safety through a structured, evidence-based training program designed to strengthen provider knowledge, confidence, and clinical decision-making.
In addition to his leadership role at SkinSpirit, Carlos serves as faculty with the Allergan Medical Institute, a Clinical Educator with Sciton, and a Principal Clinical Study Specialist at Bay Area Laser Lab. Through Carlos Aesthetic Lasers & Injectables Consulting, PC, he collaborates on customized training, clinical education, speaking, and provider-development initiatives.
Who is Carlos Sandoval?
Carlos’s story is both personal and purposeful. Born in Mexico and raised in the wine country of Sonoma, California, his early experiences navigating immigration and DACA shaped a deep appreciation for opportunity, perseverance, and representation.
His own experience with cystic acne as a teenager also sparked an early interest in skin health and confidence. At 18, he began working in dermatology as a receptionist before moving into a medical assistant role, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to patient care and aesthetic medicine.
While working full-time, Carlos graduated with honors from San Francisco State University and later completed an RN residency at O’Connor Hospital, specializing in orthopedic, neurological, spine, and medical-surgical care. This acute-care experience strengthened his commitment to patient safety, a principle that continues to guide his work today.
He went on to earn his master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from San José State University and completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice there in May 2026.

Today, Carlos’s immigrant journey continues to inform his commitment to representation, mentorship, and advancing standards within aesthetic medicine.
